A bride-to-be has revealed she was reduced to tears when her fiancé popped the question with ‘the ugliest engagement ring’ – which many have mocked for looking like Phantom of the Opera and Iron Man.
The statement piece of jewellery – which has also been compared to popular television characters the Teenage Mutant Turtles – features a silver mask and pursed lips engraved onto a thick gold band.
And rather than make her feel better, social media users were quick to agree and branded it the ‘worst ring they’d seen in a long time’.
‘Is this some sort of optical illusion? I tried turning the phone a few different angles, but it’s still hideous,’ wrote one, while a second commented: ‘I would cry too, this is awful.’

The bride-to-be’s post was quickly inundated with hundreds of comments and likes as unimpressed social media users mocked the unique design
Despite the ‘hideous’ band, the woman hinted she said ‘yes’ in response to the question and had since worn the ring once.
Unsurprisingly, the bride-to-be’s post was quickly inundated with hundreds of comments and likes as unimpressed social media users relentlessly mocked the controversial design.
‘This is literally the ugliest thing I’ve seen in a long time,’ wrote one, while a second penned: ‘I think this is the worst I’ve seen so far in this group.’
A third added: ‘You didn’t say no? That is a ring to say no to,’ while a fourth agreed: ‘I’d cry if someone tried to give me that! Hideous!’
Taking to the comments section, several people suggested they would’ve cried if they had been presented with the engagement ring too
Meanwhile, others were quick to compare the ring to popular characters from theatre productions and films, as they took great amusement out of the similarities.
‘Are you marrying the Phantom of the Opera?’ questioned one perplexed person,’ while a second internet user similarly quipped: ‘The Phantom of the Opera wants his ring back.’
A third commented: ‘Oh this is that new Marvel line of jewellery. This is the Iron Man band,’ while a fourth added: ‘Reminds me of a prize for winning a wrestling competition.’
A further asked: ‘Is that a mutant Ninja turtle?’
Some suggested the ring looked like it had Iron Man’s face (seen above) embellished onto it
